A Turkey Bowl Thanksgiving

Turkey Bowl

Thanksgiving marks the return of wonderful time-honored traditions. From gathering ‘round the table with the warmth of friends and loved ones to devouring that delicious holiday spread, it’s no wonder why it’s considered a favorite among American citizens. Another heralded custom on this day? Playing (or watching) football! The Thanksgiving Day Turkey Bowl is a classic event that goes almost as far back as the first Thanksgiving.

Two National Favorites Combine

It all started in 1869 in Philadelphia, PA, just six years after Turkey Day #1, when The Young American Cricket Club and the Germantown Cricket Club played a noteworthy match against each other on the date. This would soon start forming as a trend in another prominent city: New York! The Princeton team would compete against Yale’s on Thanksgivings from 1876 to 1881. It was clear to see that having football on the holiday wasn’t leaving anytime soon. Finally, in 1882, the Intercollegiate Football Association made the match official, and the rest is history. Today, “Turkey Bowls” are a staple of this country’s culture, as American as apple pie. But where did that term come from? Well, when high school leagues started to name their matches after that deliciously prepared bird, Turkey Bowl it became!

A Can’t-Miss It Event

With the NFL hosting three exciting matches this November 28th, you truly won’t have any trouble finding football games to watch on Thanksgiving! Tune in throughout the day, perhaps while you wait for that beautiful bird to finish cooking, or while recovering from a food-induced coma after tucking into dinner together with family. This year, it’s the Chicago Bears v. Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills v. Dallas Cowboys, and New Orleans Saints v. Atlanta Falcons. Check out what time the matches are airing beforehand so you can catch all your favorite teams!

Make the Turkey Bowl Your Own!

While watching from the comfort of the sofa is very cozy, sometimes enjoying football with real fanatics can up the feelings of Thanksgiving togetherness. Luckily, the sports bar scene around Union City, CA is sure to be brimming. Check out this list for a selection of neighborhood dives that’ll be open on the holiday. There, you can sip a beer (or two!), indulge in some pub fare, and make some new friends! Rather throw a Turkey Bowl of your own? Why not organize a community game at a local park close to home? That way, you can spread some togetherness and good-natured competition with your neighbors at The Union Flats!

If you’re not sure what day is Thanksgiving 2019, be sure to keep November 28th posted up. Whether you prefer to watch the pros duke it out from your living room, on a barstool with some brews, or decide to toss the pigskin yourself with friendly residents, you might just feel a little closer to the American roots of the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving!

Add Some Fragrance to Your Union City Apartments

When people think about decorating their apartments, they usually focus on sight instead of the other four senses. Why is that? It’s just as important to live in a place where the ambiance has comforting sounds and smells as well. This year, as you transition from summer to fall, consider filling your apartments with flowers that provide you with a comforting fragrance. Your Union City apartments will come to life as you bring in flowers and nurture them while they nurture you.

There are quite a few ways you can go when it comes to fragrance for your apartments. These flowers require their own maintenance rituals, which you can find online. They are a wonderful way to bring some much-needed life and soul into your apartment. And depending on which scent you decide on, it can set the entire ambiance for what you’re trying to go for.

For instance, if you want a scent that’s fragrance will leave you feeling refreshed and less anxious, then lavender is a good way to go. Lavender is notorious for having a great impact on one’s mental health and nerves. If you’re looking for something a bit more stimulating, having the smell of a citrus flower can be more beneficial. In fact, if you work from your Union City apartments, it can be something that helps you get your work done. Finally, if you’re looking for a smell that overpowers all and leaves you with a sense of purity, gardenia might be the best way to go.

When decorating apartments, most people get so fixated on what it looks like that they forget the other senses that truly help create a home. Which fragrant flower will you choose to bring the best out of your Union City apartments? You’d be surprised in what change of mood and attitude it can bring for you as well.

Go Green in Your Union City Apartments

Maybe it’s been on your mind, but you just haven’t gotten around to it. Have you been interested in making some environmentally conscious decisions in your Union City apartments to reduce your carbon footprint? If so, there are actually quite a few things you can do to help the environment, all the while saving a couple bucks (or more!) on your utility bill. Here are some tips of things to go green at your Union City apartments:

1. Avoid buying plastic/Styrofoam cups and utensils to use as dishes and use real dishes instead. After all, the smaller the pile of trash you create is, the smaller footprint you leave on earth and the less amount you contribute to piles of garbage that may eventually get dumped in the ocean.
2. Try growing your own seasoning or fruits and vegetables. Even in your apartments, you’re allowed to bring in little pots that you can have in a section and monitor with the right amount of light and water in order to grow healthy things for yourself. This will emit good CO2 in your department, save you money on groceries and bags/trash/gas associated with groceries, and could encourage fellow visitors in your apartments to do the same.
3. As mentioned briefly above, be conscientious of how you use and abuse your utilities. Use natural light whenever possible and make sure that lights and fans are turned off if you aren’t in a room. Although it could be tempting to put the AC on at an extreme setting to keep the house cool, try opening windows and using other alternatives to block the sun out of where you live to keep your house cool.

Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Apartments in Union City

Are you looking forward to the change of seasons? If so, consider doing some spring cleaning beforehand to ameliorate the possibility of allergies and to just have a sense of freshness in your apartments. Spring cleaning is more than just the physical act itself, it’s also about sorting through your life to determine what is necessary and what is not.

That being said, one spring cleaning tip would be to “think minimalism”. Get rid of anything you deem excessive by donating it to the Goodwill, the Salvation Army, or even a friend in need.

Another spring cleaning tip would be to do a very deep clean of your apartments. If it’s a task that you find too daunting, consider finding a house keeper or using the app Task Rabbit to have someone certified to do the work for you.

If you plan on tackling spring cleaning yourself, then make yourself a little playlist on Spotify or YouTube to motivate yourself through the work.
For other useful spring cleaning tips, check out this helpful website. Try not to see spring cleaning as something daunting or boring, but rather meditative, productive, and useful. What will you start with first this year when it comes to spring cleaning?
